Warts are not only a skin problem that causes discomfort and is easily transmitted to other parts of our face and body, but also to others. Their appearance can bother you a lot, especially when they are found in body parts, such as the fingers and palms of the hands, making even a simple handshake difficult, for fear of spreading the virus to others.
Don't follow grandma's natural remedies, because they are not effective, but also because while you are wasting time in case you see a result, the virus multiplies and spreads elsewhere. On the contrary, there is a much more effective and modern way to get rid of them and that is the sophisticated CO2 Laser that can treat them in a targeted and effective way, even in just 1 visit.

Laser treatment is the most modern and effective method for treating warts. In Derm & Plastic Surgery Clinics you will find the original medical device and the treatments are always done by Dermatologists.
The advanced CO2 Laser, acts selectively on the warts, destroying them with the thermal energy of the Laser, without affecting the surrounding healthy skin. It is a suitable treatment for any age and any skin type and can be applied safely even to children, who are very often affected by warts.
The great advantage of Laser is the customised treatment, as the Doctor can adjust the parameters of the treatment, such as the wavelength, the energy, the diameter of the light beam of the Laser and others, depending on the individual needs of each patient. This allows targeted treatment of warts, offering maximum effectiveness.
Laser ant treatment is painless, as it is always preceded by the local application of anesthetic cream. The healing is fast and does not leave scars or discoloration on the skin of the sensitive area, like the older methods. After treatment, the return to daily activities is immediate. The treatment is literally done within minutes of your time and you are detangled quickly and effectively, as with this method, damage can be eliminated in a single session.
Before the actual treatment, the medical examination by the Doctor always precedes. At this consultation, the Doctor will assess the number of lesions that need to be treated and where they are located and the appropriate treatment plan will be created.
Preparation for the Laser begins with thorough cleaning of the affected areas and antisepsis. Then a local anaesthetic cream is applied, so that any discomfort is reduced to a minimum and the treatment will be completely tolerable. After 20 minutes, the area is ready for the Laser, the anaesthetic cream is removed and the skin is disinfected again.
The CO2 Laser parameters are adjusted by the Doctor for the effectiveness of your treatment. As long as all the necessary adjustments of the device are made, the sublimation of the lesions starts locally, without affecting the healthy tissues in the surrounding areas. The important thing is that you feel absolutely nothing and there is no unpleasant discomfort during application.
After the treatment is completed, the area is disinfected and an antibiotic cream is applied to avoid any possible infection. The session ends with the instructions that will be given in detail by the Doctors of our Clinics for the procedure, so that you get the maximum possible results after your treatment.
Neither of these two methods are done in our Clinics, as they leave scars on the skin and are not as effective, compared to Laser.
Cryotherapy is a treatment that has been used for many years in Dermatology to treat various benign skin lesions, including warts. In this method liquid nitrogen spray is used and sprayed over the lesions, as a result of which they are cooled and thus destroyed. It is an easy procedure, relatively inexpensive and does not require the use of local anaesthesia.
However, its effectiveness as a treatment is not the same as the effectiveness of Laser CO2, as it needs more than one session to damage warts. Each session is repeated after 2 weeks to 1 month. Another disadvantage of this treatment is that it can create white scars in the area, due to the cooling in the depth of the dermis. Furthermore, cryotherapy has a very high rate of recurrence of warts compared to Laser CO2.
Cauterization is one of the oldest methods of treating warts, by burning them with the use of electricity. The electrocauterization of warts is done using a special unipolar diathermy device and the recovery time is 2-3 weeks.
For this specific treatment, the use of local anaesthesia with injection is required, while at the same time there is a risk that it will leave scars in the area and hypopigmentation afterwards. The long recovery time and the very high rate of recurrence of genital warts compared to Laser CO2, are among the disadvantages of the treatment.
Their big advantage is that they are easy to apply at home and that they are an economical treatment. Their disadvantages are that they are effective only on very mild and small lesions, they irritate the skin of the genital area while they are applied and they require long periods of treatment.
They are mainly used as maintenance therapy to reduce relapses or in patients who wish to be treated at home. The two main categories of ingredients are:
Podophyllotoxin (0.15% cream and 0.15% solution): This treatment is applied topically and helps to limit the proliferation of the virus. It is important to note that it is irritating to healthy skin and is contraindicated during pregnancy.
Fluorouracil and Salicylic Acid (solution): This treatment is applied topically to the lesions and helps to limit the proliferation of the virus and the treatment can last up to 4 months. It is important to note that it is irritating to healthy skin and is contraindicated during pregnancy.
The treatment of warts in children should be done with special care by a qualified Dermatologist. In our Clinics we have great experience in treating warts in children of all ages and we use only the CO2 Laser which heals quickly and effectively without leaving scars. Topical caustic chemicals should be avoided in the treatment of children's warts, as they can cause burns to their sensitive skin.
The right choice of Doctor plays an important role in the outcome of the removal and in the final aesthetic result. It should be a qualified Dermatologist with excellent knowledge of anatomy and many years of experience. Do not be convinced by very low prices (e.g. 50 - 60 euros) and trust your health in the hands of non-specialized Doctors, as then you will need to pay double and triple to qualified Doctors to correct their mistakes.
In Derm & Plastic Surgery Clinics, the removal of warts is done only with the medical CO2 Laser device and the cost is affordable for everyone and starts from 100 euros.
Warts are a viral infection in the upper layer of the skin, caused by HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). The virus has more than 200 different subtypes, some of which cause common warts, some genital warts and some others are carcinogenic and are associated with cancer of the cervix, penis, anus and oropharynx.
The subtypes of HPV that cause common warts are HPV subtypes 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 27, 29 and 57. This virus causes the rapid proliferation of skin cells resulting in the development of warts. Warts are benign bumps and depending on their type, they have a different appearance.
Warts are annoying as they are usually occurring in areas like the face, palms and soles. They are highly contagious and often painful. With Laser CO2 treatment we can treat them permanently and block their spread, stopping the discomfort they cause you.
Warts are transmitted by simple contact with infected people or objects. Transmission is easier when there is a small break in the continuity of the skin, i.e. a scratch or a small injury, while it is possible to transmit them from one part of the body to another, after contact with the infected area. This happens because the virus can live for several days outside the human body and therefore the possibility of its transmission increases.
It is quite common to transmit the virus while swimming in a pool, as HPV viruses are resistant to the chlorine that is added to disinfect the water. This fact, combined with the habit of people walking barefoot in such environments, leads to a high possibility of infections.
Often we spread the warts from one part of our body to another. For example, warts that form in the palm area can lead to warts on the face or any other place, due to frequent contact of these areas with the hands.
The palms are a place where warts are often found on the hands. Other common places are the dorsum of the hands, fingers and around the nails, where they are called periungual warts.
Palm warts often appear in children who can touch infected objects with their hands, while they do not yet have a strong immune system to protect them. Also, warts on the fingers often appear in people who, due to their work, have frequent contact with water, e.g. housewives, chefs, hairdressers.
Warts on the palms are skin-coloured, round or oval palpable lesions, ranging from one millimeter to one centimetre in diameter, with a rough, hard, and uneven surface. They may have black dots on them, which are tiny clotted blood vessels.
Plantar warts look like a circular lesion, without a clear outline and with a rough surface. They can also appear on the toes and around the nails, in which case they are called periungual warts.
Plantar warts often occur in swimmers and people who walk barefoot in swimming pools. They are skin coloured, while if their thick coating is removed, the characteristic black spots are observed.
Plantar warts usually appear in areas of the foot where pressure is applied and mainly prefer the front part under the toes. Plantar warts are usually extremely painful, if left untreated and cause difficulty and severe pain when walking. Due to the pressure from walking, they usually do not grow outward as bumps, but grow inward into the skin in the form of hard nodules. That’s why it is important during the diagnosis to separate them from calluses (corns) on the feet.
Warts can also be found on the face and are more common on children's faces and men's beards from shaving. Warts on the face are usually smooth and flat, but can sometimes be like hanging lesions.
It is a type of wart that grows under and around fingernails and toenails. They have a rough surface, cause pain and can affect the shape of the nail.
As long as you leave the warts untreated, you run a high risk of them multiplying and spreading to other areas of your body and face.
Even if the warts improve with a short topical treatment recommended by your pharmacist, chances are they will soon recur if not treated correctly and with more effective methods such as Lasers.
Plantar warts are particularly painful when the patient stands, walks or engages in some sporting activity.

There is a very effective and modern way to get rid of warts and that is the advanced CO2 Lasers that can treat them in a targeted and effective way, even in just 1 visit..
Laser wart treatment is painless , as it is always preceded by the local application of anesthetic cream. The healing is fast and does not leave marks or discoloration on the skin, like the older methods of diathermy and cryotherapy.
Truth: Warts have no roots and grow in the top layer of the skin and have little black dots inside them, which are actually tiny blood vessels that feed them.
Truth: Although it is reported that this can happen, especially in people with very good immune system, it is extremely rare and it can take months or even years for this to happen. In the meantime the person is contagious to others and that's why CO2 Laser treatments should be done.
Truth: Warts can sometimes reappear, even after successful removal. This happens because no treatment can destroy the virus and it remains dormant in the skin and is likely to reactivate, especially in times of stress and weaken immunity. That’s why it is important to continue preventive measures to reduce the risk of warts recurrence.
In Derm & Plastic Surgery Clinics, warts are treated exclusively with CO2 Laser, as it is the treatment with the lowest recurrence rates and destroys the lesions, even in a single session.
After Laser warts treatment, the area should not get wet for 24 hours and it is recommended to use topical antibiotic cream on the treated areas for 5-7 days. When it comes to warts on the foot, then we suggest avoiding standing for a few days and avoiding walking barefoot until the areas heal.
