Tightening Threads
PDO Threads are like thin fibers, which are smooth on their surface (without hooks) and are placed under the skin, in horizontal and vertical directions forming a mesh. With their biodegradation, in the following months, they stimulate the synthesis of collagen and elastin, which is why these threads are often called collagen threads or tightening threads. PDO Threads, under no circumstances, can cause an instant lifting of the skin and for this reason they are not recommended for people who want an instant result. In these cases we prefer COG threads.
The essential benefit of PDO Threads however is in the production of new collagen, so if someone applies them in sufficient numbers, on the face and neck, will begin to see a visible firming and lifting action, almost a month after the treatment which will further improve in the coming months and as long as their biodegradation lasts. Typically, PDO threads can be single, double, triple stranded or even spiral and are used to address sagging in the cheeks, around the mouth, around the eyes, in the forehead and in the neck.

On the other hand, COG Τhreads are thicker diameter threads, with tiny hooks on them, which when placed under the skin, they 'hook' onto the internal tissues. Thus, they give to the Doctor the possibility of internal traction of the skin, in the direction we wish, offering immediate lifting of the loose skin, but also long-term collagen production from their biodegradation, within the next months.
That’s why they are called lifting threads, as they have Face Lift abilities and are preferred by people who want an immediate Lifting effect. COG threads are most often used to lift sagging cheeks, to stretch the loose skin of the neck, correct nasolabial folds and improve the contour of the jaw and the oval of the face.
APTOS Threads
APTOS Threads offer even better results than COG and PDO threads. APTOS Threads are specialized absorbable threads, made of fully absorbable and biocompatible materials, of polylactic acid (PLLA - Poly L Lactic Acid) and polycaprolactone (PCL - Polycaprolactone) and offer longer lasting results and more collagen production. They consist of specially designed multi-directional hooks, which can hold and lift the inner soft tissues of the skin strongly after their application.
The result is visible immediately after the treatment and continues to improve for the next 3 - 4 months, while the duration of the result is approximately 1.5 - 2.5 years. If you wish, you can add more APTOS Τhreads, in the same or other areas of the face, even within a month after their first application or at any later time you wish, even before the time interval of two years, in order to achieve your desired effect.
Silhouette Threads
Silhouette Τhreads are specialized absorbable threads, made of fully absorbable and biocompatible materials, of polylactic acid (PLLA - Poly L Lactic Acid) and poly-lactic-co-glycolic acid PLGA (Poly Lactic-co-Glycolic Acid) and offer results of greater duration and more collagen production, compared to COG and PDO Τhreads, which are made of polydioxanone. They have small cones in opposite directions, which, upon entering under the skin, hook and hold the internal tissues of the skin, as happens in a surgical lifting also.
The result is visible immediately after the treatment and continues to improve for the next 3-4 months, while the duration of the result is approximately 1.5 - 2 years. How exactly do Threads deal with sagging?
PDO Threads treat sagging skin with the collagen production they offer, from the very first day of their placement, but also gradually during their biodegradation, over the following months. Threads are essentially a "foreign body" for the skin and this is enough for the body to send there factors that stimulate the skin's healing process, for the production of new collagen and elastin. This is particularly important as collagen and elastin are the main proteins of the skin, helping to keep it strong and firm.
As we age, our skin gradually produces less and less collagen, causing the skin to gradually weaken at least by 80% by the age of 70. This loss of collagen is a determining factor in the appearance of sagging. That being said, the stimulation of new collagen can firstly reduce the already existing loose skin and secondly prevent its further deterioration.
On the other hand, COG Threads address immediately the skin sagging. Firstly, they have the ability to immediately hook and smooth out the skin after their placement and secondly they have neocollagenesis ability, through the same collagen genesis mechanism as PDOs.

Threads Procedure
After a while, the treatment begins, which, depending on the extent of the area where the threads will be applied, will last from 20 to 30 minutes. To place the threads, extremely fine needles or special non-traumatic cannulas are used, which carry the thread inside them. By inserting the needle or cannula into the skin and after its subsequent removal, the internal thread remains in the position, predetermined by the Doctor, to achieve a lift. When the Doctor pulls the threads, you are likely to feel a gentle pulling effect, but nothing uncomfortable. When the desired lift is achieved, the excess of each thread is cut and the procedure is complete.
Instructions after the Body Threads
At this step, the Doctor gives you instructions and the number of threads and their placement areas are recorded in your medical files. If PDO threads have been used in your treatment, no immediate difference will be visible in your body, as with these threads the first improvement starts to be visible in one month. Whereas if GOG threads have been used, then a first result will already be visible, immediately after your treatment. We say a first result, as in the following months, the threads will show weekly improvement as they biodegrade and collagenogenesis is being achieved at the same time.

Instructions before Face Threads Treatment
To prepare your skin, it would be good to be at the Clinic 30 minutes before your appointment, in order to apply a local anaesthetic cream to the treated area.
Before the treatment, it is advisable to avoid taking anticoagulants or anti-inflammatory one week before your treatment, as these increase the risk of bleeding and consequently, bruising.
Also avoid taking vitamins and multivitamin preparations, for at least one week before the treatment, as these are substances that increase the bleeding tendency and consequently the risk of bruising.
Avoid the consumption of alcohol 24 hours, before your treatment.
Instructions after Face Threads Treatment
Once the treatment is complete, a special antibiotic cream will be applied to the entry points to prevent any infection.
You may experience swelling or bruising in the areas of application and in this case, we recommend the use of a special arnica cream, on a daily basis for 7 - 10 days, as well as the frequent use of ice cold packs or other cold patches.
Also, it is good to avoid wearing make-up for the first 1-2 days, until the skin and specifically the threads’ entry points are healed.
It is recommended to avoid intense physical exercise, for at least a week, in order not to damage the suspension of the threads, in case COG threads have been used.
Also, if there is any dental treatment in your schedule, it is advisable to wait 1-2 weeks, so as not to put pressure on the areas where the threads are applied. For the same reason and for the same period of time, you should also avoid facial cleansing or other aesthetic treatments accompanied by therapeutic massage.

Myth: Threads will affect the face's natural movements and the result will look fake
Truth: Threads when placed correctly and by certified Doctors, are placed at the correct anatomical depth under the skin and have the corresponding elasticity, which follows the natural movements of the face. So all movements are carried out normally and effortlessly, without the threads being visible under the skin and without their presence being felt or seen.
Myth: Threads will be visible under my skin
Truth: As we mentioned above, when the threads are placed correctly and by certified Doctors, they are placed at the correct anatomical depth under the skin and are not visible or noticeable at all. Of course, the experience and technique of the Doctor who places them plays a decisive role, as well as the use of certified quality threads. Unfortunately we have experienced cases that came to our Clinics with irreversible damage from thread procedures by non-doctors and for this reason we advise you to be very careful where you choose to go.
Myth: Anyone can do Body Threads
Truth: Threads, as well as all the specialized medical treatments, can only be done by Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons, who are certified in the application of threads. We would like to draw the public's attention to the deception by people who are not even Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons, but girls who declare themselves as "cosmetologs" and who, with one week’s seminars, do experiments on people and are working illegally from their homes or in beauty salons and do everything from eyelashes and nails to illegal injectables and other medical treatments. Complications and side effects from these ladies always come to certified Doctors afterwards to be corrected and in many cases the damage is irreversible.
We have encountered in our Clinics, deformities from misplacement of Threads with damage to the nerves of the face and subsequent chronic neuralgia, with results that were not reversible.That’s why we advise you not to look for the cheapest treatments for your face and to always go to specialized Doctors for medical treatments, such as threads and injectables . Myth: Face Threads may suddenly move or break after the treatment
Truth: It depends on the type of threads. With PDO Threads this never happens, as the PDO Threads stay exactly where they were placed by the Doctor until they are gradually absorbed by the body over a period of six to twelve months. On the contrary, in COG Threads, what can happen is that they gradually lose the degree of support they initially had when they were placed.
This can happen for three reasons: either because of thread strain or poor thread integration or poor thread quality. The strain is mostly related to how much one takes care of his face after application. Thus, people who exercise very intensively and exert pressure on the facial muscles, mechanically strain the threads more and that means that these can more easily move or even break.
Poor integration has to do with the way the threads are placed, the quality of the collagen in someone’s face and the choice of threads in general. In older patients the collagen is weaker and the muscles have atrophied, as a result of which the threads cannot properly hook with the surrounding tissues and do not achieve sufficient lift and support that will last. Also, on a very heavy face, the threads may not support its weight and loosen more easily, compared to thinner faces.
And finally and equally important, is to make a correct choice of good quality threads, as well as a careful selection of the right candidates that will benefit from the use of them.
Myth: Non-surgical Lifting with Threads has the same effectiveness as Surgical Lifting
Truth: Definitely not! Threads or otherwise Non-surgical Face Lifting, are simply the alternative treatment for those who are afraid of Surgical Face Lifting. Threads are suitable only in degrees of mild or moderate skin laxity and in no case their use can replace the effectiveness, but also the duration of the results of surgical Face Lifting.
Frequent Questions about Face Thread Lift
One of the most common questions people ask about any treatment is whether it hurts. The application of Threads is done with local anaesthesia, without incisions and is very well tolerated. There might be a slight "pulling" sensation if COG threads are used, but this is only temporary and lasts for 2-5 days.
The duration depends on the total number of threads to be applied, as well as the type of threads. Usually the procedure lasts from 20 to 30 minutes. That's why it's also called Lunch Time Face Lifting and you can immediately go back to your activities.
The results of Thread Face Lifting last on average 1 to 2 years, depending on the type of threads used and the degree of skin laxity. In particular, if they are combined with other aesthetic medicine treatments, then the result will be more impressive and their duration longer.
The threads, as we mentioned above, are made of the same materials that absorbable surgical sutures are made of. So their safety is well documented, from their frequent use, as surgical sutures, for decades. The threads are made of three classes of biodegradable materials, polydioxanone, polycaprolactone and polylactic acid, which biodegrade on their own within 6 to 18 months, thus stimulating collagen production.
This depends on the number of threads you put in your initial treatment, but also the type of threads. What is certain is that the threads are a “Do as you See" treatment and if you started more cautiously, with less threads at the beginning, you can always add more, in the next few months. If you wish, you can add more PDO or COG threads, even before a year or two has passed, in the same or other areas of the face, to gradually achieve your desired effect.

But the essential benefit of PDO threads is the collagenogenesis they offer and if you apply them to the face and neck in sufficient numbers, you will start to see a visible tightening and lifting effect, almost a month after your treatment, which will be further improved in the coming months and as long as their biodegradation continues.
When threads are placed after medical consultation, with experienced Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons, about the problem you want to address with the threads and the result that you expect, it is very rare that you will not be satisfied with the result. Nevertheless, in the extreme case that you don’t like something, you should know that the PDO threads cannot come out of the skin, as they are very fine fibers that are not easily visible, when placed inside the skin. You will need to wait about six months for them to start dissolving.
But the same generally applies for COG threads as well and when placed inside the skin they hook and are not always easy to be taken out, unless they are visible from the opening through which they were inserted and the Doctor can grab it and pull it out, at the time of its placement. Otherwise, they can only be removed surgically, by opening small incisions on the skin where they were placed, which we do not recommend because of the risk of scarring. That’s why it is better to wait for them to dissolve by themselves and always be selective about who will be the Doctor who will do the procedure for you.
Thread Lift is a treatment preferred by ages 30 and above, when the first signs of skin laxity begin to appear and the skin needs tightening and support.
At the ages of 30 - 50, threads are a very good alternative to surgery, as at these ages the skin has the ability to produce collagen and the results of the threads are very satisfactory. From 50 onwards and depending on the degree of skin laxity that exists, the number of threads required to give satisfactory results is greater.
