6 Face Skin Tightening Treatments That Deliver What They Promise!

It has been proven that even by the age of 20, the reduction in collagen and elastin production begins and the skin produces 1% less collagen every year. And since these two substances are responsible for the youthful appearance and firmness of the skin, with their gradual reduction the skin begins to look dull and dry and it starts to sag. The production of collagen and elastin by the skin decreases even more after the age of 40 (2% less every year) and this gradually leads to the acceleration of skin sagging. This process is completely normal and expected with ageing, but is fortunately reversible with the following modern medical treatments that boost collagen formation and rejuvenate the skin.

Treatments that improve skin texture, thickness and tone

Sagging of the face is inevitable as we age, since gravity makes no exceptions and along with our skin, also our psychology weighs down. But you don't need to worry, as nowadays we have available modern treatments, with which you can achieve lifting of your skin and of your self-confidence at the same time!

These are face skin tightening treatments which are applied with special medical devices. Each one of them works in a different way, but they all have the same target: the stimulation of collagen production, with visible results from the very first session.

RF Radiofrequencies made their appearance many decades ago and have remained in the field of aesthetic medicine until today. The reason is simple, as they are considered multitasking devices, capable of dealing with many problems together, in a single session. RF Radiofrequency treatment uses multipolar radiofrequency energy to heat the deeper layers of the skin, "awakening" fibroblasts to produce new collagen and elastin and causing collagen fibres to contract and tighten. So while you enjoy the warm sensation that the radiofrequency device offers, your face is actually gradually reshaping itself.

RF Radiofrequency is often used as an alternative to more invasive procedures such as a Face Lift and is popular because it has no recovery time. The treatment is completely safe and has no side effects, making it an excellent choice for those who want to achieve Skin Tightening, without undergoing surgery. This treatment spectacularly changes the texture, thickness and tone of the skin and the skin becomes softer, more elastic and firmer.

Number of Sessions: Usually 6 - 12 sessions are required, which take place every 7 - 15 days.

Mesotherapy is a therapeutic procedure that has been used for many decades in the field of aesthetic medicine and aims to improve the texture and appearance of the skin on the face.

Injectable Facial Mesotherapy involves the introduction of valuable active ingredients into the middle layer of the skin, which is why it has been called "mesotherapy". Injecting specially custom-made cocktails of therapeutic substances to the skin, offers enhanced nutrition, deep hydration, firming and toning to the skin.

Number of Sessions of Face Mesotherapy: Usually 4 - 6 sessions are required, depending on the degree of the problem and which take place every 7 - 15 days.

The 5 main ingredients used in enhanced Body Skin Tightening Mesotherapy :

Hyaluronic Acid

This hydrophilic molecule, which holds 1000 times its weight in water, is one of the main components of mesotherapy, with excellent moisturising and anti-aging properties. Is the main ingredient in the Hyaluronic Skin Boosters.

Vitamins (A,C,E)

Vitamins are ideal for fighting signs of ageing, maintaining an even skin tone, while also helping to renew skin cells, keeping the skin elastic and firm.

Coenzyme Q10

It is one of the most powerful antioxidants, protecting the skin from free radicals, while at the same time contributing to the regeneration of skin cells, acting synergistically with vitamin E.

DMAE

The substance DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol) comes from acetylcholine. When injected into the skin it  "stretches" the muscle fibres, giving a tightening and lifting effect.

Organic Silicon

Organic silicon promotes collagen and elastin synthesis, improving skin elasticity and firmness.

Even if you haven't tried it, you've definitely heard its name. And this is not just a coincidence, as Dermapen is the original and most well known microneedling device in the world. Its action is based on the skin's natural healing mechanisms, as it carries out controlled micro-injuries in the upper layers of the skin, thus stimulating the production of collagen and elastin. In our Clinics you will find the Dermapen 4which is the fourth generation of this revolutionary technology and is the fastest, automatic, digital microneedling device, effectively treating skin laxity. For maximum results, we recommend the combination of Dermapen together with Enhanced Facial Tightening Mesotherapy, for even longer lasting results. This treatment is ideal for the neck and décolletage area, which wrinkle over time, but also for the dorsum of the hands, as these three areas, due to skin ageing, often betray a person's true age. The Dermapen is overall an excellent treatment for sagging skin on the face.

Number of Sessions: Usually 4 - 6 sessions are required, depending on the degree of skin laxity,  which take place every 20 - 30 days.

Fractional Laser for Face Skin Tightening

We all have wondered if the appearance of our skin could look more renewed and radiant, without spending a lot of time and money and if we could have the effect of a mild Face Lifting, but without the knife. And this is the most frequent question that you ask us at our Clinics and those of you who have already visited us know that the answer is Laser Skin Resurfacing or Face Fractional Laser. This is the most advanced type of Laser Regeneration, capable of completely reconstructing the skin, restoring its lost radiance and firmness. Its comparative advantage over previous techniques is that it can act simultaneously on two levels, both superficially, in the outer layer of the skin and in its deeper layers, causing an increase in collagen and elastin production.

This results in an improvement in skin colour and texture at the surface level, but also deep skin regeneration and tightening in the deeper layers. For maximum results, we recommend the combination of Fractional Laser together with Enhanced Facial Tightening Mesotherapy, for even longer lasting results. The Fractional Laser is also an excellent treatment for acne scars, fine lines and facial post-surgical scars.

Number of Sessions: sually 4 - 6 sessions are required, depending on the degree of the problem,  which take place every 20 - 30 days.

Threads are an advanced aesthetic treatment, used for non-invasive facial tightening and lifting. Threads are the aesthetic version of absorbable surgical sutures, which have been used for decades in general surgery. They are made of special materials that are safe and 100% absorbable and biodegradable by the body.

The most well-known ones used are PDO Threads and COG Threads, which create a supportive net under the skin, which stimulates the synthesis of new collagen and elastin, with a spectacular benefit on skin firmness.

PDO Threads: These are smooth threads and are made of polydioxanone, a material that is completely absorbed by the body. They create a supportive net under the skin and promote collagen production, offering long-term skin tightening.

COG Threads: These threads have tiny hooks, which hook under the skin. Therefore, they offer immediate lifting of loose skin and on the other hand, as they are hydrolyzed, they encourage the production of new collagen, thus providing long-term skin tightening.

The technology of "Plasma Pen - Plexer" promises to tighten the skin, without incisions and without much recovery time . The plasma energy (fourth form of matter) is transferred to the outer layer of the skin and manages to shrink and "evaporate locally", in the places where the medical device touches, the delicate skin of the neck and décolletage, but also all other "wrinkled" areas of the face and effectively deal with their skin laxity.  manages to shrink and "evaporate locally", in the places where the medical device touches, the delicate skin of the neck and décolletage, but also all other "wrinkled" areas of the face and effectively deal with their skin laxity.

What causes Sagging Skin?

The skin sagging of the body is a normal process that occurs over time, due to the normal ageing of the body. The age at which the body begins to sag can vary from person to person and is due to many factors, among which the main ones are:

Reduction of Collagen and Elastin

Collagen and elastin are the two proteins that keep the skin firm and elastic. As we mentioned already at the age of 20, the reduction in collagen and elastin production begins and the skin produces 1% less collagen every year. From the age of 40 and onwards, the production of these two substances drops further and is produced 2% less each year. So it is reasonable that as we age our skin becomes more and more prone to the law of gravity!!

Exposure to the sun

Exposure to the sun is responsible for 80% of the ageing of the skin and consequently its skin laxity. This is why skin laxity first appears on the face, which is the most exposed area. But the body also follows, especially if sunbathing and solarium are your main activities every summer.

Hormonal Profile

The hormonal profile in women after menopause is subject to significant changes, mainly due to the decrease in oestrogen production from the ovaries. Oestrogens are responsible for regulating many body functions, including the production of collagen and elastin, causing the skin in women to thin even more. A decrease in the skin's natural lipid production, which is also seen after menopause, makes the skin unable to retain its moisture and thus becomes drier, exacerbating skin sagging even more.

Deficiencies of Vitamins C and E

Lack of vitamins C and E can contribute to skin sagging, as these vitamins have an important role in the health and function of our skin.

Vitamin C: Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant and is crucial for the production of collagen, a protein that provides support and elasticity to the skin. Collagen production decreases with age and vitamin C deficiency can aggravate this process, leading to sagging skin and the appearance of wrinkles.

Vitamin E: Vitamin E is also a powerful antioxidant that helps protect the skin from free radicals and the negative effects of the environment. Lack of vitamin E can cause skin dryness and dehydration, adding to the sagging problem.

Rapid Weight Loss

Weight loss and sagging skin are closely related and are often two factors that affect the appearance of the body, especially after rapid weight loss. During weight loss, the proteins that support the skin, like collagen and elastin, don't have the ability to regenerate and produce as quickly, especially if the weight loss has been too rapid. This inevitably leads to the appearance of sagging skin.  Also during weight loss, the fat under the skin decreases and this fat plays a role in supporting the skin. Therefore when the fat is decreased, the skin has no longer enough support and sags.

Smoking

The effects of smoking for the skin are multiple and are mainly due to the toxic substances contained in cigarette smoke, which contribute to the relaxation of the skin and accelerate ageing. In particular, smoking causes the destruction of collagen and elastin, which are necessary for the support and elasticity of the skin. Cigarette smoke can also restrict blood flow to the skin, reducing the supply of oxygen and nutrients. This can cause dehydration and dryness of the skin, which further aggravates the sagging.

Alcohol

Daily alcohol consumption can dehydrate the body, as alcohol is a diuretic and causes fluid loss. Lack of adequate hydration makes the skin dry, thin and vulnerable to the appearance of wrinkles and sagging. In addition, alcohol destroys the body's natural collagen and elastin, a fact that has a negative effect on skin elasticity.

Loose Skin after rapid Weight Loss

Although weight loss is considered an ally to good health, if it is done rapidly, then it brings problems. Rapid weight loss not only reduces the amount of fat in the body, causing the body to appear empty and sag, but it can also affect the amount of collagen and elastin in the skin.

Of course, this problem does not appear when someone gradually loses 5-10 kg over a period of 2-3 months, but when they massively lose 15kg or more, abruptly within 1 month, as often happens after obesity surgical procedures with a gastric band ring. In these cases the skin does not have the ability and the necessary time to shrink on its own and so it sags

The good news is that nowadays there are available both invasive (Face Lift, Neck Lift) and non-invasive body tightening treatments that can help these people restore their skin and deal with body sagging effectively.

Are you aware of the Beauty Triangle?

The Beauty Triangle or Triangle of Youth is essentially an inverted triangle that has its base high and mentally joins the cheekbones of the face and its top to the chin, in a youthful and attractive face characterised by high cheekbones and a thin, well defined jawline. Also known as the Heart of the Face, this triangle becomes inverted with the natural ageing process as our face loses volume and the skin begins to sag.. So gradually after the age of 45, the cheekbones lose their volume and the oval of the face relaxes, with the result that the base of the triangle now joins the corners of the jaw and the top of the triangle is on the bridge of the nose.

To address these facial changes due to ageing, there are various skin tightening treatments and resurfacing procedures that can restore the "beauty triangle" and rejuvenate the face's youthful appearance.

At what age does the skin begin to relax?

As we said, even by the age of 20, the reduction in collagen and elastin production begins and the skin produces 1% less collagen every year. But from the age of 40 onwards, the production of these two substances drops further and is produced 2% less each year. So it makes sense that as we age, our skin becomes more and more prone to the law of gravity!! Initially, the loose skin appears first on the face, which is a sun-exposed area, and then it gradually makes its appearance on the skin of the body, especially in people who spend their summers at the sea, sunbathing for long hours or in solariums.

Certainly, sagging is not the first sign of aging seen on the skin of the face. Deep Wrinkles, come first appearing around 30, and the first signs of sagging begin to become visible after the age of 40, as elastin and collagen production plummets after forty.

A decisive role is also played by fat, which after forty not only decreases, but also shifts downwards to lower parts of the face, dragging the skin downwards. Women notice the sagging of the face earlier than men , as their skin is 20-25% thinner than men's and their menopause worsens the condition.

How to avoid Sagging Skin as you age

Sagging skin as we age is inevitable for all of us. But there are things we can do to slow down its onset.

First of all, all medical treatments that treat sagging skin, if applied proactively, before the first signs of sagging even appear, are extremely helpful in keeping your skin smooth and firm. Secondly, there are a number of factors that can be improved by yourself.

Πως να αποφύγω την Χαλάρωση Προσώπου

Balanced Diet: A balanced diet rich in vitamins C and E and rich in fruits, vegetables, proteins and omega-3 fatty acids can promote increased collagen production.

Water: Hydration is important for skin health. That's why you should drink around 2 litres of water every day to maintain elasticity and avoid skin dryness.

Avoid the sun: Excessive sun exposure can cause damage to the skin's elastic fibres and accelerate ageing and sagging. Always use sunscreen and avoid sun exposure during the most dangerous hours.

Προστασία από το κάπνισμα και το αλκοόλ: Both smoking and drinking alcohol can accelerate skin sagging and cause premature ageing. Try to avoid them.

Skin Tightening Creams: Choose skin care products that contain firming and moisturising elements and creams with ingredients such as coenzyme Q10, vitamins C and E, algae, hydroxy acids and retinol, which support collagen and elastin production.

Muscle-strengthening Exercises: Regular exercise, especially weight and resistance exercises, can help strengthen the muscles, which makes the body look tighter.

Lose weight slowly and steadily: Losing weight is good for your health, but losing weight too quickly will definitely harm you. The World Health Organization suggests that weight loss be gradual and under no circumstances should exceed 4 kg per month, so as to give the body the appropriate time to adjust.

Myths & Truths about Face Skin Tightening

Myth: Sagging Skin affects older people only

Truth: While sagging skin becomes more noticeable with age, it can also affect younger people due to factors such as rapid weight loss, pregnancy, heredity and lifestyle choices.

Myth: Skin Tightening creams can reverse Sagging Skin

Truth: While skin tightening creams can improve skin elasticity and hydration, they cannot completely reverse sagging skin by themselves. We would say that they work best in conjunction with aesthetic medical treatments such as body tightening Mesotherapy, RF Radiofrequency treatments or Laser treatments.

Moreover, when used daily and systematically, they work very well in maintaining the results of the above mentioned medical treatments and equally well as a prophylactic way, in delaying the appearance of sagging.

Myth: Only surgery can effectively treat Sagging Skin

Truth: Surgical procedures such as face lifts and neck lifts can provide excellent results in severe skin sagging and surgical approach is the only way to fix these problems in severe cases. However, when the sagging is minor or moderate, there are non-surgical treatments available (like all the medical treatments we mentioned above) that can help with improving firmness and tightening the skin.

Myth: Once the skin is loose, there is nothing that can be done to improve it

Truth: It is true that the natural elasticity of the skin decreases with age and in excess skin sagging, the skin may not fully return to its original state, except with surgical repair of the area. But if you have a small or moderate degree of skin laxity, there are various medical non-surgical treatments in our Clinics, which can significantly improve the elasticity and firmness of the skin.

Myth: The results of Face Skin Tightening treatments are temporary

Truth: Modern face tightening treatments have the advantage of being able to target the deeper layers of the skin, where collagen production and cell renewal take place. So beyond the immediately visible effect due to the hyperemia caused and the increased circulation and oxygenation of the treatment areas, these treatments stimulate collagenogenesis and enhance tissue nutrition and hydration, building a long-term effect.

This means that your results will get better and better after each session and the big difference will be seen after 2 - 3 months, from the completion of your sessions, as the new collagen that will have been created in these areas offers brightness, elasticity and firmness to the skin.
