What is Dermalux Phototherapy?

First of all, Dermalux phototherapy is the phototherapy done with the original Dermalux device, which is the only approved and multi-awarded medical phototherapy. Facial phototherapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses the power of light for the benefit of the epidermis.

Having been distinguished for five consecutive years, at the Aesthetic Medicine Awards in London, Dermalux phototherapy guarantees the regeneration of cells, through the light energy it releases on them, in specific therapeutic wavelengths. Skin experts rate this treatment as a top therapy, as it gives spectacular skin rejuvenation, causing 200% faster cell renewal!

Dermalux achieves 200% faster cell renewal

How does Dermalux Phototherapy work?

Although excessive exposure to sunlight can cause multiple skin problems (light wavelength 190-400 nm), the controlled light levels of Dermalux treatment (light wavelength 400 - 760 nm with red, blue and infrared light) are clinically beneficial and completely safe.

In fact, the skin absorbs the light energy of Dermalux and transforms it into cellular energy, stimulating the skin's natural regeneration and rejuvenation mechanisms. This phototherapy wakes up the fibroblasts for natural collagen and elastin production and accelerates cell renewal by 200%.

A Tailor Made Light for Every Problem

Dermalux Blue Light

Dermalux® Blue Light

The Blue light has a natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effect and unlike antibiotics that are on the market, such as topical creams or pills, it does not allow germs to become resistant. It is ideal for acne treatment, since it not only kills the acne propionibacterium, but also suppresses sebum secretion, thus regulating oiliness.

It also soothes redness and inflammation of the skin and balances pH levels, helping with rosacea and other inflammatory skin conditions, such as atopic dermatitis.

Dermalux® Red Light

The Red light is ideal as an anti-ageing treatment, erasing fine lines and wrinkles, as it boosts collagen and elastin production and restores skin's radiance. This activation of fibroblasts to produce more collagen, helps reduce wrinkles and reduce acne scars, as well as the signs associated with photoageing on the skin.

In addition, clinical studies have shown that red light can help restore hair for people with androgenetic alopecia or hair loss, as it activates microcirculation on the scalp.

Dermalux Red Light
Dermalux Infrared Light

Dermalux® Infrared Light

The near-infrared light contributes to skin regeneration, through soothing and reducing irritation and that’s why it is ideal for sensitive skin. Additionally, it has the ability to break down melanin’s accumulation and disintegrate discolorations, making it an ideal choice for people with skin pigmentations and brown spots.

Medical History - Skin Assessment

Before your treatment, it is very important to have a proper assessment of your skin's needs by qualified Doctors. Once your skin is properly diagnosed, the Doctors will recommend the wavelength of light that best suits you.
Step 2

Skin Preparation

At this point, any traces of make-up or sun cream should be removed before your Dermalux phototherapy, as the skin needs to be clean.

Why should I choose Derm & Plastic for Dermalux Phototherapy?

Γιατί να επιλέξω Derm Plastic Clinic για Dermalux

Derm & Plastic Surgery Clinics are specialized Aesthetic Dermatology and Plastic Surgery Clinics. In our premises, therapies are carried out only by the Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons of our Clinics and not by non-qualified Doctors or even worse non-Doctors, as is the case in some other medical practices.

Dermalux is the original, internationally certified medical device, which is found in the Clinics of experienced and qualified Doctors, who have invested in good medical equipment for their practices. In no way, this is similar to a simple Led facial mask, which you can use even at home and it is much much cheaper.

For us phototherapy is considered a medical procedure and the necessary time and attention and diligence are given for our patients. Besides that, we are just as concerned as you are, about the aesthetic results of our treatments and for this reason our Clinics are equipped only with genuine medical devices.

Meet the Derm & Plastic Way of Life We are ensuring the quality of the services provided to you in premium spaces, with hygienic standards. Because it is important in addition to good medical devices, to feel well and be treated in beautiful modern rooms and not to perform medical procedures in old and depressive spaces, with dubious hygienic conditions and safety controls.

Myths & Truths about Dermalux Phototherapy

Myth: The LED mask that goes directly on the face is the same as Dermalux

Truth: There is a big mess out there for this issue. Both terms may have the word "phototherapy" in their names, but we can assure you that this is their only similarity.
First of all, Dermalux is the original, internationally certified medical device, which is found in the Clinics of experienced and qualified Doctors, who have invested in good medical equipment for their practices. In no way, this is similar to a simple Led mask, which you can use even at home and it is much much cheaper.

The Dermalux medical device has top technology, which ensures the efficacy and safety of the procedure. Dermalux has 1600 led lights, in contrast to a Led mask that only has 160. Also an important difference is that Dermalux enables a combination of colours of light, in the same session and at the same time, which offers a better and faster result, while a Led mask cannot offer this.

The light intensity of a Led mask is much lower, with very dubious effectiveness, compared to the original Dermalux. What's the point of wasting your time, under a mask that doesn't have any effectiveness, because someone sold it to you, as phototherapy?
The 3 clinically proven beneficial wavelengths for phototherapy are ONLY the blue, red and infrared light. In advertisements for LED masks, they will tell you about green and yellow and purple light!!! But it's better to leave those lights for your Christmas Tree and avoid putting such masks on your face.

They have no effectiveness, except that you waste your money and your time. Therefore, as you can see, special attention is needed when you are called to choose the phototherapy that you will apply onto your skin, as the differences between the original Dermalux and LED masks are more than one. To avoid fake imitations – which are more common than you think, even in medical practices – ask the Doctor who will perform your treatment to show you the phototherapy device and its certification.

Myth: Phototherapy at home is just as effective as Dermalux Phototherapy

Truth: In no way can the effectiveness of the genuine Dermalux device be compared to LED masks, either those you bought for yourself, or those you found in medical practices and beauty salons (which, for economic reasons, do not want to invest in authentic, good equipment in their premises).

These LED masks, in addition to being cheap non-authentic imitations, are of lower intensity and have a smaller number of LEDs, as a result of which they do not achieve high absorption rates of light energy and require much more time to expose each point of the face to light, making the treatment extremely time-consuming and its results doubtful.

Myth: Dermalux Phototherapy is only an Acne treatment therapy

Truth: Dermalux acne phototherapy is one of the most popular treatments, as it is a drug-free acne treatment. But Dermalux has also a number of other protocols that work extremely well for the skin. Wrinkles, scars and hair loss are some common problems that Dermalux can help with.

Frequent Questions about Dermalux Phototherapy

Of course you can! In fact Dermalux acne phototherapy is one of the established treatments for acne protocols, with or without oral medication at the same time. The Dermalux Blue Light protocol is ideal for the treatment of acne, since it not only kills the acne Propionibacterium, but also suppresses sebum secretion, thus regulating oiliness.

The number of treatments that will be needed varies from person to person and depends on the severity of the problem, the age and the skin condition that we are being asked to treat. You should also know that with Dermalux phototherapy the results are cumulative and the improvement will continue, even after the treatment is stopped.

As phototherapy does not harm the skin at all, there is no limit for the number of sessions you will have. Typically 6 - 8 treatments are needed for optimal results.

With Dermalux phototherapy the results are visible immediately. After just one treatment, the skin is hydrated, brighter and smoother in texture. As the beneficial effects of Dermalux work cumulatively, with each subsequent session, the results will further improve. This is why a series of 6-8 treatments is recommended for optimal results.

The results last for several months (6 - 12 months) after completing a series of Dermalux phototherapy treatments, which should preferably be done consecutively (6 - 8 sessions). However, as with any other treatment, it is recommended to have some maintenance treatments (after completing the initial treatment protocol), approximately every 3-4 months to maintain your good results.

Dermalux phototherapy is not painful at all. It is a non-invasive treatment, completely safe and atraumatic, with no downtime at all and immediate return to your daily activities. Dermalux will relax and relieve you from the stress of everyday life, as it also increases the levels of serotonin in the body, which acts as an antidepressant.

If your phototherapy is done with the FDA approved Dermalux device and not with the cheap LED Masks, you have nothing to fear, as the treatment is completely safe 100%. The light that is being used in phototherapy is not ultraviolet light, so it does not carry the risks of skin damage and light radiation. On the contrary, non-certified LED Masks do not guarantee the effectiveness of your treatment, nor its safety.
The answer is Yes. Dermalux has one of the highest safety profiles of any other skin care treatment. It does not emit UV wavelengths, so it cannot damage skin tissue or create photosensitivity. It is clinically proven to be safe for all skin types, even the most sensitive ones.

Although it is a particularly safe and effective procedure, there are some groups of people who should avoid this treatment. In particular, the use of Dermalux is not recommended for people suffering from the following conditions:

  • People with epilepsy or light-induced seizures
  • People with photosensitive disorders, such as photosensitive eczema
  • People with metabolic disorders, such as porphyria
  • People with lupus erythematosus (SLE)
  • People using photosensitive medications
  • A relative contraindication is also women during pregnancy
Usually a series of treatments consists of 6 to 8, lasting up to 30 minutes. The recommended frequency of Dermalux is from 1 session per week to 1 session per month, according to your needs.
Each Dermalux treatment lasts from 15 to 30 minutes, according to your needs and the therapeutic protocol, which has been formulated by qualified Doctors.
Dermalux is a completely safe treatment for all ages, even teenagers and has no age restrictions.
Dermalux is a relaxing and pain-free treatment with proven wellness results. The treatment does not produce heat, but a feeling of natural warmth, due to the increased blood circulation in the face, during the treatment. Another side benefit of phototherapy is that exposure to the treatment light increases serotonin levels, which in turn help relieve stress, tension and headaches, as it acts as an antidepressant.
The answer is definitely yes. Dermalux phototherapy can be applied after Fractional or Dermapen treatments and Mesotherapies, because it smoothes out any redness that may have been caused by these treatments.
